Vol. 518 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbour Authorities.

Austin Deasy

Question:

108 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the plans, if any, he has for the management the harbour at Dunmore East, County Waterford. [11230/00]

I am committed to the provision of high quality customer services at each of the five fishery harbour centres, including Dunmore East, which are currently managed by my Department.

Officials of my Department recently met representatives of the harbour users at Dunmore East in connection with the operation of the harbour, and consideration is now being given to arrangements for improving the quality of services for the users.

Arrangements are in train also for the establishment of new management arrangements under which day to day responsibility for the five fishery harbour centres will be devolved from my Department. These new arrangements will be designed to promote local involvement, initiative and development, and will allow greater flexi bility in responding to local requirements, within an appropriate overall framework.
