Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Dick Spring

Question:

145 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance if works recently undertaken by the Office of Public Works at Ballymullen Barracks, Tralee, are in compliance with the provisions of the National Monuments Act, in view of the rich archaeological heritage of the locality. [11641/00]

The works currently being undertaken at Ballymullen Barracks, Tralee, to provide temporary accommodation for asylum seekers are being carried out in compliance with the normal requirements of Dúchas in relation to archaeological finds. In the event that archaeological material is discovered, the standard procedure is for a Dúchas appointed archaeologist to visit the site to assess the situation.
