Tony Gregory

Question:

230 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamen tary Question No. 114 of 22 March 2000 in relation to the appointment of permanent teachers, the outcome of the negotiations referred to and the matters that remain to be resolved. [12195/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 219 and 230 together.

Following detailed discussions with the teacher union concerned, my Department agreed that a number of teaching posts in this school could be filled in a permanent capacity. In agreeing to this, my Department took account of various matters including the duties being performed by the teachers and the times of classes. These matters were reflected in the contracts of employment offered to the teachers proposed for permanent appointment.

Discussions are continuing with the teacher union in relation to the contracts of employment.
