Vol. 519 No. 1

Written Answers. - Economic and Monetary Union.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

49 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the EU General Affairs Council has discussed the euro and related issues. [12855/00]

Since the single currency made its debut on the international financial markets at the start of 1999 there has been no discussion at the General Affairs Council on the euro. Matters pertaining to the euro and the co-ordination of economic policies generally in the European Union are dealt with in the context of the ECOFIN Council and are primarily the responsibility of my colleague, the Minister for Finance.
