Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Higgins

Question:

123 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a person (details supplied) in County Clare did not receive his area aid for the year 1998. [13421/00]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development
(Mr. Walsh): In accordance with EU regulations, extensification premium for 1998 was payable on all animals paid under the suckler cow and special beef premium schemes where the stocking density of the holding was less than 1.40 livestock units per hectare.
The stocking density for the person named is calculated as follows:

Milk quota

Nil

Ewe premium 30 ewes @ 0.15lu

4.5

Suckler cow premium

Nil

Special beef premium

10 Mth – 46 @ 0.6

27.6

22 Mth – 7147 @ 0.6 = 28.20

24 @ 1 = 24.00

52.2

Total livestock units

84.3

Hectares declared on 1998 area aid application is 59.97. Stocking density on the holding is calculated by dividing the total livestock units by the hectares (84.3/59.97) giving a stocking density of 1.405 livestock units per hectare. As the stocking density for the person named is not less than 1.40 livestock units per hectare he has no entitlement to 1998 extensification premium.
