Question:

220 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of consultants appointed in each year since 1990; and the specialities to which they were appointed. [15155/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 219 and 220 together.

The following data has been supplied by Comhairle na nOspidéal which is the statutory body with responsibility for regulating the number and type of consultant appointments in hospitals providing services under the Health Act, 1970. Detailed data by speciality is not available for the years 1990, 1991 and 1992. Also the data for these three years is based on the year ended 31 May, whereas from 1993 onwards the data is for the year ended 1 January.
