Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cycle Facilities.

John Gormley

Question:

261 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the most current guidelines to local authorities regarding the provision of cycle lanes; and the technical details in this regard. [14987/00]

In March 1998 my Department, in association with the Dublin Transportation Office, published a design manual for cycle facilities entitled Provision of cycle facilities – National Manual for Urban Areas, which was subsequently circulated to all local authorities. A copy is also available in the Oireachtas Library. This manual, which was prepared in association with international consultants, provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for the design and provision of cycle facilities and provides assistance to local authorities in ensuring that such facilities are implemented to a uniform and high standard.
