Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Programme.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

256 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide details on the 30 post primary schools involved from September 2000 in the pilot project for the Living with Change and Loss programme targeted at secondary school students and designed to help young people respond in appropriate ways to emerging crises in their lives and help them to identify support mechanisms. [18905/00]

The 30 post-primary schools which will take part in piloting the Living with Change and Loss programme have not yet been selected. All second level schools have been notified with details of the programme. Schools interested in participating can apply to the head of education at Marino Institute of Education, Dublin 9.

Selection of schools will be based on a set of criteria to include the following: evidence of commitment to the aims of the programme; willingness of school personnel to participate in inservice training for the delivery of the programme.

Other considerations in the selection process will be: school type; school size; gender balance; geographical distribution of schools; and balance between numbers of urban and rural schools.
