Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Quota Allocations.

John Perry

Question:

391 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) is granted a suckler cow quota from the national reserve in view of the fact that he needs the additional quota to make his farm viable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19793/00]

The person named has applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the year 2001 national reserve under category D. This category is reserved for farmers who do not qualify under any of the priority categories A, B or C. Quota will only be allocated to applicants under category D when all eligible applicants under the priority categories A, B and C have received allocations. Because the demand for reserve quota has far exceeded the amount of quota available for distribution, all the available quota will be allocated to eligible applicants under the priority categories.

In the circumstances, there will not be sufficient quota available to allow an allocation to be made to the person named.
