Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Nora Owen

Question:

1051 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an initial proposal from a school (details supplied) in County Dublin to replace prefabs, portocabins and a seriously deteriorating old building with a modern new school structure; if so, when his Department will sanction approval of this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20115/00]

An application has been received from the managerial authorities of the school to which the Deputy refers for the replacement of prefabs, portocabins and the replacement of a building on the school campus.

In advance of commencing any capital works at this school, the planning section of the Department is assessing the school's long-term enrolment. Once this assessment is complete, the infra-structural needs of the school will be examined.

John McGuinness

Question:

1052 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, with the provision of a new school building at Churchill national school, Cuffesgrange, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20195/00]

My Department is currently processing an application from the management authorities of Churchill national school, County Kilkenny for additional accommodation.

It is too early to say at this point when construction will commence. However, the school authorities will be kept informed of progress as it happens.
