Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Denis Naughten

Question:

1066 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science his assessment of the availability of educational psychologists to school children compared to the estimated level of need; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20365/00]

The planning group for the National Educational Psychological Service – NEPS – recommended that 200 educational psychologists would be needed to meet the needs of the educational system. I envisage that up to 100 psychologists will be in post before the end of the current school year and that the target number of 200 will be reached as soon as possible.
