Vol. 523 No. 3

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Willie Penrose

Question:

156 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps he will take to ensure that an application made by a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath to the Land Registry Office is dealt with as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21017/00]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this dealing refers to an application under Section 49, i.e. acquisition of title by virtue of long possession, of the Registration of Titles Act, 1964 which was lodged on 4 July 2000. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of the applicant's claim for registration as owner, take some time to process.

I am further informed that queries issued to the lodging solicitor on 11 August 2000 and a reply to the queries was received on 31 August 2000. I can assure the Deputy that the matter is receiving attention in the Land Registry.
