Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Austin Currie

Question:

119 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22, who is suffering severe pain, can expect to be admitted to Tallaght Hospital for treatment. [21185/00]

The responsibility for the provision of services in the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, incorporating the National Children's Hospital now rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.

Michael Ring

Question:

120 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who was awaiting admittance to the University College Hospital on 2 October 2000 was sent home at 9 p.m. and told he was not being admitted, only to result in his admittance to Mayo General Hospital as an emergency on 3 October 2000 at 7 a.m.; if he will carry out a full investigation into this matter; and the reason this person was turned away from University College Hospital when he was so obviously ill and in need of medical treatment. [21186/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo in this instance is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
