Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Boards of Management.

Liz McManus

Question:

442 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the abolition of the board of management of Tinahely national school, County Wicklow; the action he will take to ensure that a board of management will be put into operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22289/00]

In response to a request from the patron of Tinahely national school, my approval as Mini ster was given to his proposal for the appointment of a single manager to replace the board of management of the school on 28 August last. This was in accordance with the provisions of Rule 14(4) of the rules for national schools which states that:

Subject to the approval of the Minister, the patron may, at any time, resume the direct management of the school, or may nominate another manager.

I can confirm that the patron subsequently appointed a single manager.

As the term of office of all existing boards of management will expire on 30 November 2000 my officials will be in further direct contact with the patron regarding the management of the school at that stage.
