Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Competition Authority.

John McGuinness

Question:

241 Mr. McGuinness asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will have investigations made into the delay in processing a complaint by the Competition Authority from a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; the reasons for the delay; and her plans in this regard. [24573/00]

I have no day to day responsibility for the exercise of its enforcement functions by the Competition Authority which is an independent statutory body.

My Department has been informed by the authority that a complaint was made by the person named by the Deputy on 11 November 1999 and in response to a request from the authority on 26 November 1999 that person provided more information in February 2000.

The authority has indicated that due to resources problems the matter could not be dealt with until relatively recently and that it will be in touch with the complainant in due course.
