525 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the inadequate facilities that exist in the paediatric unit in Sligo General Hospital, County Sligo; the progress he has made in providing a new unit; when work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 507 and 525 together.

The provision of hospital services in Sligo is the statutory responsibility of the North Western Health Board in the first instance.

I have been informed by the North Western Health Board that the development of the new children's unit at Sligo General Hospital is one of the hospital's key service development priorities. This development is included in the board's national development plan proposals and is currently being addressed in the preparation of the hospital's development control plan which will be completed by the end of March 2001. The timeframe for the project will be finalised at that stage.
