Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Denis Naughten

Question:

709 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the Mapinfo GIS system to compile accident data will be fully operational; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24776/00]

The Mapinfo GIS system has been developed by the Local Government Computer Services Board to assist the man agement of the public road network by local authorities, including the management of road accident data.

Following its earlier operation on a pilot basis, Mapinfo is now fully operational in 29 of the 34 county councils and county boroughs. A further three local authorities will have the new system fully operational in the near future and the remaining local authorities have existing computer based accident data systems in place which perform similar functions.
