Written Answers. - Heritage Sites.

Billy Timmins

Question:

120 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to develop the facilities at Glendalough, County Wicklow and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25611/00]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera)

In announcing details of the built heritage elements of the national development plan on 5 November, I indicated that I was setting aside an allocation of £4.5 million in the period to 2006 specifically for a programme of upgrading of exhibitions and audio visual displays at existing heritage sites. In mak ing that announcement I made specific reference to the need to upgrade the exhibition/audio visual facilities at Glendalough. While the exact details of the upgrade programme for the entire country have yet to be worked out fully I can confirm that in finalising this programme Glendalough will be receiving priority consideration.
