Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

317 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there are people currently detained in prison awaiting deportation following unsuccessful application for asylum; if so, the number so awaiting; the prisons they are detained in; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26837/00]

At present there are two people detained in the training unit, Glengariff Parade, Dublin 7 under the provisions of section 5 of the Immigration Act 1999 pending their deportation from the State. Both persons are unsuccessful asylum applicants who failed to comply with arrangements which had been made to facilitate their deportation from the state.
