Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John McGuinness

Question:

155 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in arranging an urgent operation for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin 12; the reason this person has been on a waiting list since February 1997; if the appointment of his consultant (details supplied) to a permanent position in the hospital is the cause of the delay; the reason this appointment is not being made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29117/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and respond to the Deputy directly.
