Question:

227 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of Freedom of Information requests received by his Department; the number of requests rejected; if he will review the treatment of Freedom of Information requests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29463/00]

From the commencement date for freedom of information, 21 April 1998, to 30 November 2000, my Department received 1,253 requests. The responses to these requests can be categorised as follows.

The Act specifies the internal and external appeal procedures for requesters. My Department monitors requests to ensure compliance with the Act and I receive regular reports on developments relating to freedom of information.
