Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Respite Care.

Denis Naughten

Question:

690 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will allocate funding to the Brothers of Charity to develop a respite centre at Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2025/01]

The provision of health related support services to persons with an intellectual disability is a matter in the first instance for the relevant health board. The regional intellectual disability consultative and development committees in each health board region identify priorities for service development and co-ordinate the provision of services, including additional services as resources become available. These committees are representative of the health board, voluntary service providers and families of persons with an intellectual disability.

The additional revenue funding which has been allocated to the Western Health Board in 2001 for services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism includes provision for the development of additional respite services. I understand from the board that it is proposed to allocate an additional £76,000 to the Brothers of Charity Services this year to enhance the level of respite services available to persons in Ballinasloe.
