Vol. 530 No. 2

Written Answers. - Private Rented Accommodation.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

114 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 155 of 18 October 2000, if progress has been made in relation to the examination his Department is undertaking in advance of 25 July 2002 in view of the implications of the Housing (Private Rental Dwellings) Act, 1982, for successor tenants. [3439/01]

This issue is the subject of ongoing examination in my Department. In order to establish an accurate and detailed profile of those remaining in the formerly rent controlled sector, local authorities have, at the request of my Department, undertaken a postal survey of tenants. The outcome of this survey, currently being finalised by authorities, will give an indication of the extent to which tenants may be affected and will inform future policy decisions that may be required.
