Vol. 530 No. 4

Written Answers. - Anti-Smoking Policy.

Jack Wall

Question:

141 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children his reaction to RTE 1 permitting guests on chat shows to smoke; the action he will take in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4200/01]

I presume the Deputy is referring to a recent live broadcast of the "Late Late Show" on RTE 1 during which a guest was allowed to smoke. I am advised that RTE has a code of practice which prohibits smoking on-air and in television studios.

I am concerned and disappointed that the RTE authorities allowed this breach of the code. My concerns over this matter have been brought to the attention of senior management in RTE.
