Vol. 531 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Clearance Certificates.

Ivan Yates

Question:

86 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the delays in the issuing, due to the backlog of printing in the United Kingdom, of C2 tax certificates; and if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will have the issue and printing of their C2 certificate expedited in view of the fact that all their affairs are in order. [5091/01]

The Revenue Commissioners advise me that they undertake to process C2 applications within 15 working days of receipt. Normally up to ten working days elapse between the date an approved application is forwarded to the printers and the date on which it is returned. The Revenue Commissioners are satisfied that the printing of C2s is being carried out within the parameters agreed with the printers.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the application for a C2 certificate by the taxpayer referred to by the Deputy was received in the Office of the Inspector of Taxes, Wexford, on 12 January 2001. The approved application was forwarded to the printers on 7 February 2001, that is, the approval of the application and transmission of the details for production of the C2 to the printers took 19 working days. The delay in processing the application, which was due to an oversight, is regretted. The C2 was received back in the tax office on 19 February 2001 and the taxpayer called to the tax office on the same day to collect it. In this case, the C2 card was received back from the printers within nine working days.
