Vol. 531 No. 5

Written Answers. - Review of Legislation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

128 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has carried out any recent reviews of legislation pertinent to his Department, the number of Acts which have not been modernised or updated in the past 20 years and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6379/01]

The full extent of the many reviews I have carried out of legislation that comes within my area of responsibility in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, is as set out in the Government legislation programme as announced by the Chief Whip on 25 January 2001. Since I took office, 35 Bills have been enacted and a further 9 Bills are before this House or the Seanad. That programme also contains details of the many Bills which are at various stages of preparation in my Department. The programme, in so far as it contains details of Bills which have yet to be enacted or are in the course of preparation, indicates the areas of law in my Department which this Government has decided requires updating. Further details will be announced in the usual way in due course.
