Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

293 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason the district electoral divisions of Pouladuff B, which is in the highest 5% of disadvantaged areas, Ballyphehane A and Ballyphehane B which are within the highest 20%, have not been included in the selection of target areas in Cork city under the RAPID programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8636/01]

Under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness the Government is committed to targeting investment under the national development plan on a priority basis to the 25 most disadvantaged areas in the State. The RAPID programme is specifically designed to meet that objective. The 25 areas which have been selected represent the most deprived 5% district electoral divisions in the country based on the Trutz-Haase Index.

None of the districts referred to by the Deputy came within the most deprived 5% under that index, including Pouladuff B, and therefore do not qualify for inclusion under RAPID.
