Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Waiver of Rates.

David Stanton

Question:

155 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the changes which will be required in the law to enable local authorities to waive payment of rates in cases of severe hardship being experienced by businesses, especially in the tourism sector; if he is considering such a change; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10921/01]

No changes are required in the law to enable local authorities to waive rates in certain circumstances. Section 2 of the Local Government (Rates) Act, 1970, provides for schemes to be made by rating authorities for the waiver of rates.
