268 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of the total annual budget allocated to each Government Department in each of the past five years; the total budget figure for each of these years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12228/01]

The percentage of total net voted expenditure allocated to each Government Department in each of the past five years is set out in the following table:

The information for 1997 to 1999 is based on the final audited outturn figures included in the appropriation accounts for those years. The 2000 figures are provisional outturn data and the 2001 figures are estimates as included in the 2001 Revised Estimates for the Public Services. The 15 ministerial Vote groups above cover the 44 separate Votes that are included in the Revised Estimates for the Public Services. Three of the Vote groups, Taoiseach, Defence and Foreign Affairs, include two Votes; Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands includes three Votes; Education and Science covers four Votes; Justice, Equality and Law Reform covers six Votes, and the Finance group includes 17 Votes.
