O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the estimated number of non-European Union nationals working here without proper permits or documentation; and if she has any proposals to enable those undocumented workers to acquire legitimate worker status. While my Department has responsibility for economically related immigration policy and issues work permits to employers in Ireland, the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform has responsibility for immigration and visa policy generally and for citizenship matters.
