Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - National Football Stadium.

Question:

196 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if a redeveloped Lansdowne Road has been considered for a national stadium for soccer and rugby and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13314/01]

In the context of the preparation of its feasibility study on a stadium for the new century, PriceWaterhouseCoopers evaluated 22 sites for the stadium, including Lansdowne Road. Following consideration of the feasibility study, the Government decided to proceed with the planning of Stadium and Sports Campus Ireland at Abbotstown, Dublin 15, as recommended in the feasibility study. The steering group which managed the feasibility study, had in its membership a representative from the FAI and the IRFU. A copy of the feasibility study is available in the Oireachtas Library. Both the FAI and the IRFU have confirmed that they will host their major internationals at Stadium Ireland.
