Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - Overseas Student Fees.

John Gormley

Question:

197 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a United States resident with an Irish passport, Irish parentage and a PRSI number, who is now a full-time student at third level, is required to pay full overseas fees. [13086/01]

With regard to the rate of tuition fees to be charged where students are not eligible under the free fees initiative, universities are autonomous institutions and it is a matter for each university to define the category of students obliged to pay the higher, non-EU rate of tuition fees.
