Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Noel Ahern

Question:

182 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 166 of 15 February 2001 regarding retention of a teacher in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 3, he will provide an update on the situation and indicate if the school will retain this teaching position in the school year 2001-02. [13400/01]

The staffing of primary schools is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. This is in accordance with guidelines agreed between this Department and the education partners.

The enrolment at the school in question has decreased from 413 pupils on 30 September 1999 to 371 pupils on 30 September 2000. An enrolment of 371 pupils is not sufficient to allow the retention of the 14th mainstream class teacher for the 2001-02 school year.

The board of management of the school in question was notified in writing of this position on 6 April 2001.
