Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Heritage Council.

Phil Hogan

Question:

377 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when work will commence on the provision of the headquarters of the Heritage Council in Kilkenny city; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13961/01]

The Deputy will be aware that the Heritage Council is an independent statutory body, established under the Heritage Act, 1995. The only function of my Department in relation to the headquarters of the Heritage Council is the provision of funding for its purchase and/or construction. All matters connected to the procurement of their new headquarters are dealt with by and are the sole responsibility of the Heritage Council and I have no information from it as to when it expects to be in a position to proceed with them. I will continue to ensure that the necessary funding is available to enable the Heritage Council to proceed with the procurement of its new headquarters as soon as this is feasible.
