Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

John Perry

Question:

474 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the planned extension and site works for Knockmenia national school, Ballymote, County Sligo; if he will waive or reduce the 10% or £21,000 which the families will have to raise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13918/01]

Under the new funding arrangements for building projects introduced in January 1999, the amount of the local contribution for school extensions was reduced from 15% to 10% and, in addition, the contribution was capped at £25,000 or £10,000 in the case of disadvantaged schools. These arrangements are of a general application and it is not open to my Department to depart from them in individual cases.
