Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - School Retention.

John McGuinness

Question:

475 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress in relation to a submission made by Goresbridge school, County Kilkenny; if he will make a statement on the school's proposals; his intentions in the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13919/01]

A submission from the school authorities in support of the retention of St. Brigid's secondary school, Goresbridge, has been received in my Department. In addition, a delegation from the school and County Kilkenny VEC met with Department officials to discuss all aspects of the proposal. The school is seeking capital investment and to become a community college under the aegis of the VEC. This proposal is currently being examined in the planning section of my Department. The examination will be completed as soon as possible and a decision notified to the parties concerned.
