Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cancer Incidence.

Austin Deasy

Question:

212 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children the incidence of cancer in recent years; the way in which this compares with the situation 50 years ago; 30 years ago; if there has been an increase; and if the medical experts here have been able to pinpoint the reason for the prevalence of the disease. [14895/01]

The National Cancer Registry is the statutory body established to identify, collect, classify, record, store and analyse information relating to the incidence and prevalence of cancer and related tumours in Ireland. Accordingly, I have requested the director of the registry, Dr. Harry Comber, to provide the information as requested directly to the Deputy.
