I propose to answer Questions Nos. 229 and 231 to 233, inclusive, together.

I have provided in 2001 non-capital determination to the Western Health Board in excess of £400 million which includes acute hospital service development funding of approximately £3 million. The question of the provision and development of services at Mayo General Hospital is a matter for the Western Health Board, having regard to its overall priorities for the ongoing development of services in the region in the context of available funding. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to outline the position in relation to the issues raised and reply to the Deputy directly.

230 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress being made to develop the breast cancer unit at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar; the extent of the moneys allocated to the Western Health Board for cancer services in 2001 that are to be allocated to the Castlebar breast treatment unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14981/01]

A total of £2.535 million has been provided to the Western Health Board to develop cancer services in its area in 2001. The provision of hospital services and the identification of development requirements at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance. I have advised the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
