Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Asylum Support Services.

Denis Naughten

Question:

333 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 216 of 16 May 2001, he will outline the numbers and location of hosting centres which exceeded their capacity in the last six months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15037/01]

As I indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 216 of 16 May 2001, the nature of the contracts entered into by the Reception and Integration Agency with accommodation providers is such that small additional numbers of asylum seekers may be accommodated in individual centres on an occasional basis to cater for unforeseen circumstances. As such, the question of centres exceeding their capacity does not arise.

In the period referred to by the Deputy, the contractual clause in question was invoked in respect of 13 centres located in ten counties.
