Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Willie Penrose

Question:

183 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if, further to the contents of correspondence (details supplied) which sets out reasonable compassionate grounds in support of an application for a transfer by a person (details supplied), this matter can be examined urgently; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15662/01]

Transfers to provincial locations are arranged in accordance with an agreement reached with the staff side at general council under the conciliation and arbitration scheme for the Civil Service. An officer's placing on the transfer list for a particular location is fixed in order of date of receipt of the application in the department concerned.

The Office of the Revenue Commissioners, in which the person concerned is employed, has sympathy for the applicant but operates a system whereby officers are required to serve for a period, at present two years, before a transfer application may be considered. In this case, the officer was recruited by the Civil Service Commissioners for the Office of the Revenue Commissioners on 27 September 1999 and specifically assigned to the Revenue offices in Waterford. When the required minimum period has been completed, and should the applicant's placing on a transfer list be reached, the officer may then be considered for transfer.
