Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Denis Naughten

Question:

286 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide additional funding to Roscommon County Council for the resurfacing of county roads and for the employment of additional general operative staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15774/01]

Non-national road grant allocations for 2001 have been fully made to all local authorities. It is now a matter for Roscommon County Council to prioritise particular county roads for improvement or maintenance under their 2001 allocation of £9.204 million; the latter allocation represents an increase of 13% on the corresponding allocation of £8.177 million and a 59% increase on the council's 1997 grant of £5.759 million.

I am satisfied that this level of funding, supplemented by Roscommon County Council's resources, is appropriate to its ongoing non-national roads requirements.
