Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Billy Timmins

Question:

116 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the cliff walk between Bray and Greystones, County Wicklow, is suffering from erosion; the plans he has to address this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15638/01]

The cliff walk between Bray and Greystones is the responsibility of Wicklow County Council and it is a matter for the local authority in the first instance to consider what coastal protection works may be required at that location.

My Department has received no request from Wicklow County Council for grant aid for coast protection works at the cliff walk between Bray and Greystones. Any request from the local authority will be considered in the drawing of the coastal protection programmes for future years, taking account of overall priorities and the funding available.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

117 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will consider making funding available to combat coastal erosion on a stretch of coastline (details supplied) in County Cork. [15760/01]

The area in question is the responsibility of the county council and it is a matter for the local authority in the first instance to determine what coastal protection works may be required at that location.

Any proposals which the county council may wish to make in relation to the stretch of coastline in question will be assessed in the context of the overall strategic coast protection priorities and available funding.
