Vol. 538 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

178 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 201 of 24 May 2001, he will further clarify the position regarding resource teaching (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18478/01]

Resource teacher posts are allocated to support children with disabilities who are attending ordinary schools on a fully integrated basis and have been professionally assessed as requiring such support. Depending on the number of pupils involved, resource teacher posts can be allocated to individual schools or to groups of schools on a shared basis.

I have asked my Department's inspectorate to investigate the needs of the pupil referred to by the Deputy. Once the inspectorate has reported, my Department will contact the school authorities.
