Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Treatment of Asylum Seekers.

Bernard Allen

Question:

621 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in paying general practitioners the £2 million owed to them for the treatment of asylum seekers. [22123/01]

Administrative arrangements have been put into place by the GMS (Payments) Board to make payments to general practitioners in respect of their treatment of asylum seekers in accordance with the agreement made between my Department and the Irish Medical Organisation. I have been informed that when the necessary authentication of the numbers of asylum seekers on particular doctors' panels is received by the board, the payments will be made.
