Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

622 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the total amount of funding spent on preventative health measures by his Department in 2000, including public education awareness campaigns and screening programmes; the percentage of the total Department expenditure for 2000 which this expenditure represents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22124/01]

The information the Deputy requested is as published in the Revised Estimates for Public Services, 2001 and is set out in the following table.

Prevention of infectious disease

£63.298 m

Child Health Examinations

£14.368 m

Food hygiene and standards

£32.620 m

Health Promotion

£8.264 m

Other preventive services

£ 58.516 m

Total

£177.066 m

This represents 4.2% approx. of the net non-capital total of health expenditure for 2000.
The total expenditure by my Department on public awareness campaigns and screening programmes in 2000 was £10 million approximately.
