Vol. 541 No. 3

Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching.

Billy Timmins

Question:

189 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding remedial teaching hours for Ballyconnell national school, Ballyconnell, Tullow, County Carlow; if there are plans to provide a full time remedial teacher for this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22584/01]

The school referred to by the Deputy has the services of a learning support teacher which it shares with two other schools in the area. All available learning support teacher posts have been allocated as part of the process of extending the service to every primary school in the country with a pupil teacher ratio of 10:1 or above.

I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school in question will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for allocation.
