Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

258 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a penalty against a REP scheme payment has been applied to a person (details supplied) in County Galway. [23179/01]

During an inspection in August 2001, it was found that a well on the farm belonging to the person named was not fenced as required by the scheme conditions. A penalty of 10% was imposed as a result, this being the specified penalty under the scheme.

The person named appealed the penalty to my Department's REPS appeals committee in September 2001. This appeal is under examination at present and when a report is received the entire matter will be considered by the committee. When a decision is taken by the appeals committee, the person named will be notified of the outcome directly in writing.
