Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Capital Investment Scheme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

259 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the status of an application by a person (details supplied) in County Galway for inclusion under the capital investment scheme for the marketing and processing of agricultural products; when funding will be approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24176/01]

The company in question has submitted an application to my Department for grant aid under the capital investment scheme for the marketing and processing of certain agricultural products under the national development plan. This application was acknowledged by my Department on 9 October 2001 which allows the promoter to commence work on the project, without any commitment that grant aid will be awarded. A large volume of applications for grant assistance has been received under the scheme. These applications are subject to a competitive selection-assessment process, which is currently taking place. It is expected that awards will be made by the end of the year.
