Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

344 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason 55 fully equipped beds are sitting empty at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle, County Limerick. [24299/01]

The question of opening additional acute hospital beds in the Mid-Western Health Board is being considered in the context of the national review of bed capacity. The review, which includes a detailed assessment of bed requirements in response to increasing demand and changing demographics, will inform the forthcoming health strategy with regard to the future development of acute hospital services in this country.
