Vol. 542 No. 4

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

188 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of convictions secured for the sale of alcohol to minors in each of the Garda districts under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24792/01]

I am informed by Garda authorities that the specific information requested by the Deputy is not readily available and could only be obtained by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources.

I can inform the Deputy, however, that as of 24 April 2001, the number of convictions in respect of the serving of drink to teenagers under 18 years of age obtained under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988, as amended by the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000, is 42.
